It it helps one person to realize that a Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis is not the end of the world, then the time and effort have been worth it.

If it helps one person to know that what they have to offer as an advocate for Parkinson’s Disease awareness and education can make a difference, then the commitment has not been in vain.

When I was diagnosed with PD six years ago, I started a journal about my fears, my hopes, and my dreams about living with this disease. Looking back through my writing, I realized  that what I wrote mostly about were my fears. When I look back through all that I’ve experienced, including the darkest period of my life, and coming out stronger because of that experience, I’ve been able to share in blog form some of the good and some of the bad that life has thrown at me. The most fortunate part of this whole process is that I have survived but I have so much more to do.

Over the last several months, I have been getting my information from the last several years together and have been working at putting it in manuscript form. My hopes and plans are to have it ready for publication by late spring 2013. It won’t be anything that I haven’t shared with someone, somewhere in the last six years. It will give a bit more background information that helps to set the tone for how my journey has been a blessing in disguise. How can life with an incurable disease, make that two incurable diseases, be considered a blessing? The people who have been placed in my life as a result of these diseases is what makes it a blessing. The opportunity to learn from others, share with others, hope with others, and work hand-in-hand with others to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure, is what makes it a blessing.

As with all things that are worth doing, this work in progress has been enlightening, cleansing, and quite a learning experience. So, having said that, I’m almost done. And yet I have so much more to do.

I’m assured that my immediate family will want a copy, and I’m hoping that a few more people will want to read it as well.
